Portlantis
Port of Rotterdam
An entire new experience centre has risen on the reclaimed land of Maasvlakte 2 where visitors will learn all about the Rotterdam port and its panoramic view.
Portlantis invites you to discover and experience the complex and dynamic world of Europe's largest and most modern port. You’ll learn more about the significance of the port for society, the economy, the living environment, and yourself. YIPP developed interactive experiences on three different floors in the new experience centre.

Model table
Scale model of the port
Once you enter Portlantis' impressive atrium, you immediately walk into a huge transparent model of the port area. By illuminating different areas and industries, the growth, development, coherence, and diversity of the Rotterdam port is made clear. Adding a special presentation mode allows guides to take visitors through different tailor-made stories.

The magic of chemistry
The magic of chemistry
In the magic of chemistry, visitors can crack molecules themselves. This intuitive game leads visitors through the process of heating and adding substances to one another, in order to create new substances. These can then be used to make all sorts of things.
In front of a large interactive wall that reacts to you through body tracking, visitors can make their own connections between different chemical companies in the port of Rotterdam. This reveals an entire network of factories that work together and depend on each other.

Cargo game
Cargo game
In the port of Rotterdam, ships are constantly being loaded and unloaded. The large windows in front of you offer a live view, while the different types of cargo can be seen on the table in front of you. A dynamic real-time multiplayer game shows ships arriving and departing to and from the port. It’s up to you to load and unload them correctly in a race against the clock. How much cargo can you ship?
Those interested in all the different ships and their cargo can consult a comprehensive information screen featuring 3D images.

Network
How many miles for the bike?
An exploded view of a bicycle offers visitors the chance to get stuck in. Where do all the raw materials for this bicycle come from? How many kilometres have all these materials travelled before you can hop on? Visitors scroll over a digital globe to look for all the parts. Once they have gathered everything, they can assemble the bicycle and watch it ride away on the screen!
Portlantis offers a surprising and varied experience for young and old. Thanks to the building's unique location and design, you’re always connected to the port around you.
