A blog?

woensdag 8 juni 2016

Yes a blog! From now on we will share all our endeavours, discoveries, insights and nonsense with you through this blog! For example, now I have a place to tell you a little about the things we discovered while making 5 Kinect powered games for the Philips Museum.

We got the daunting task of translating the 5 Innovation Drivers of Philips' new focus area "Healthcare Tech" into attractive games which explained these abstract concepts like Imaging, Sensing or Big Data in a fun way to the visitors of the museum. Together with design agency Northernlight and a team from Philips we set out on two months of fast prototyping and development. Finally to arrive at a successful opening, happy visitors and a very satisfied client!

One of the things I took away most from this project is how important building fast prototypes is when you're working with this kind of user interaction. Obviously, this is always important, but even more so when you're asking visitors to interact with an exhibit by waving their arms around in thin air, without any haptic feedback.

So we worked hard on fine-tuning the system of feedback to the user. Using consistent audio cues, easy and natural gestures and strong visual feedback that related directly to the users physical position in space, we created an interaction model visitors could understand and use from the fist time they walked in.

Of course we had to make some cool games as well, but I'll save that for a different post. I hope you have enjoyed this first one and thanks for reading! Hope to see you back soon, we'll be posting regularly.
