Learning with your hands, what better place to do that than at the Nemo Science Museum? Everyday technology becomes playful and tangible at Technium, an exhibition for children aged 8 to 12. You only really understand technology when you get your hands on it: by tinkering with an engine block, a robot, or a bicycle. Here, you’ll find a street with an ice cream parlour, a bike repair shop and the Klos clothing store. And with our digital media added to the mix, the hands-on experience suddenly becomes even more challenging.
Program this funny cleaning bot and discover its superpowers. By adding a series of actions via the 'if this - than that' principle, the robot performs the way you decide. And it doesn't only clean the floor!
What could be more fun than designing your own T-shirt? Wearing your own T-shirt! But first, find out what it takes to produce one: grab your clothes hanger and decide: Which fabric? Will you have it sewn in India or here? Will you choose transport by land or sea? After making all those choices, you’ll realise that your T-shirt costs more than just money.
Use the building blocks with bike parts and immediately test how it feels to ride. Not fast enough? Tweak your design and try again.
Children at Nemo do their own thing: they start somewhere, try things out, and discover something new. Our designers have created flexible, open-ended interactions. The Energy Mixer is an endless game: supply the city with (green) energy. In this cheerful, projected world that is constantly changing, the solution is just as changeable and always challenging. Start at any time and play for as long as you like. You’re never done with trying things out and learning.
What the children experience in the museum mirrors YIPP’s design process. All the interactive elements were designed by developing prototypes that were refined and further developed after each stage. Design, test, tweak and play. With the exhibition at Nemo, we are passing the baton to the next generation of inventors.
