OYFO is the new centre for art and technology in Hengelo. It encompasses the technology museum and encourages children and adults to discover what technology means to them. The focus lies on enjoyment and experience, without compromising on content. Visitors are invited not only to look, but especially interact with the exhibits.

Solution

YiPP realized 11 interactives for the new museum, using new techniques such as Leap Motion. The technical content was coordinated with various external partners. Visitors can discover how a distribution process works, how to fit an exoskeleton, and what the best place is to generate energy.

The experience

Stepping onto the big factory floor, visitors are immediately aware that OYFO is all about technology and discovery. Everywhere you look there are impressive machines, while colourful details grab your attention from the interactive screens. Where to begin? The body shop, the factory, or the planet?

The factory teaches visitors about the various steps that make up a production process. They sort, mix, chop, and eventually assemble bright, abstract shapes. This final step uses Leap Motion to track visitors’ hands. In the virtual world, they control a pair of futuristic robot hands and put together all kinds of fun products.

Further along, visitors can go shopping for a new body. Which current and future techniques will be used to improve and heal the human body? First, the player’s body is scanned, then they get physical tasks to experience what it would be like to have super sight or an exoskeleton.

In a leafy pavilion, gamification helps visitors acquire complex knowledge about suitable energy sources for different places around the globe. A digital card game challenges visitors to bring clean energy everywhere on earth. The game includes a series of increasingly complex, scientific, and technologically-accurate factors, that they must take into account.
