Triceratops: the herd

Naturalis

In this accessible, interactive family exhibition, visitors come face-to-face with five Triceratops skeletons and uncover the secrets of their herd.

Once visitors have marveled at the amazing skeletons, they can make them come to life using the Tricerascope, then watch as they walk right off the screen! YIPP developed this viewfinder in collaboration with Redrum, who animated the scene. Using encoders and spatial positioning, we can register which part of the herd visitors you're viewing.

Tricerascope

Bring a fossil to life using a ordinary watering can. Water the fossils and watch the plant that grows from it. Using RFID technology, visitors become part of a magical experience and can determine how much water the fossil gets. Study the Triceratops bones under a microscope and count the growth rings, or discover more about the lives of dinosaurs by studying the damage to their bones.

Usertest Stronger Together

In the exciting family game 'Stronger Together', you become part of the herd trying to avoid a T. Rex attack. Thanks to the tracking system, anyone who strays from the herd receives an immediate warning!

Usertest Wildly attractive

You may not immediately have a romantic connection with a Triceratops, but what if your partner has morphed into one? The interactive ‘Wildly attractive’ demonstrates a very original filter to players: they change into a Triceratops!

Usertest design your very own Triceratops

Visitors are also invited to get creative: what did dinosaurs really look like? Their colours are our interpretation, but you can use your imagination! Grab a paint can and design your very own Triceratops together.

The exhibition ‘Triceratops: the herd’ is on show at Naturalis until the summer of 2025. Afterwards, the show will go on a world tour.
